Responsibilities

Institutional Repositories
- Manage SMU Scholar and SMU Dataverse.
- Create and manage workflows for depositing ETDs, scholarly and creative works, and datasets.
- Support journal publishing workflows, including obtaining ISSNs when necessary.
- Advise authors on repository deposits, metadata, permissions, accessibility, embargoes, and dissemination workflows.
- Generate DOIs for articles and ETDs when required.
Open Access
- Consult on scholarly publishing, including journal and publisher selection, rights retention, and open access options.
- Administer open access grants and article processing charges (APCs).
- Promote library publishing and institutional repository services to SMU researchers.
Copyright
- Provide guidance on copyright, authors’ rights, fair use, and licensing for the creation, dissemination, and reuse of scholarly and creative works.
- Collaborate with the SMU Libraries copyright team to support copyright needs in teaching, learning, and research.
Data
- Provide research data support, including data reference services, data management planning, DMP review, and administration of the DMPTool.
Researcher profile and scholarly impact
- Serve as SMU’s ORCID representative and support ORCID integration with Interfolio Faculty Activity Reporting (FAR).
- Consult and provide programming on researcher profiles, faculty activity reporting, and research impact.
Accessibility & AI
- Partner with Norwick Center for Digital Solutions (nCDS) and OIT’s Research Technology Services team to evaluate transcription tools to assist researchers with HTR and OCR.
- Advise on workflows for transcription, alt-text, and captioning to ensure accessibility in web environments.
